Personal note about this piece This piece was on display at an exhibition titled 'On Our Doorstep' in Ballinasloe. I had decided to place gold leaf in the tower windows, something different to draw the eye across the piece. I received an email during the exhibit from a gentleman that proceeded to tell me that he grew up in close proximity of the friary, and how he heard stories of the friars leaving candles lit for travellers at night to find refuge. He walked into the exhibition and saw the friary with the sun hitting the gold and memories came flooding back. He wanted to buy this piece. Along with payment came a lovely letter thanking me for keeping the flame alive. Just thought it was a nice story to go along with this work.
